Today, GIS has become part of our everyday world, almost every decision that we make is controlled, influenced, or dictated by some fact of geography. We send fire trucks to fires by the fastest possible routes. Our government often awards grants to local governments based on population. We study disease by identifying areas of occurrence and rate of speed. GIS can also be a tool to help us organise data about these problems and to understand their spatial relationships, providing in the end more sensitive and intelligent outcomes.
